Miranda was a scientist who largely served as a priestess and the spiritual and temporal leader of a mountainous village in Eastern Europe. She is known to her followers by the title "Mother".

Despondent over the loss of her daughter Eva to the Spanish flu, she soon started conducting inhumane experiments on herself and fellow villagers with the newly discovered Mold, all in the hopes of finding a suitable host to revive her late child.

She also mentored Oswell E. Spencer, one of the founders of Umbrella Corporation, and inspired him to achieve his vision of human evolution, which made Miranda the indirect instigator of most events in the entire series.
