Edwina Sharma is the younger sister of Kate Bridgerton and the daughter of Mary Sharma.
Born in Bombay, India, Edwina grew up with parents that met in a scandalous way. Her mother, a debutante and earl's daughter, ran away from England to marry her lower class, shopkeeper father who already had a daughter of his own. Edwina's mother raised Kate alongside Edwina. After the death of Edwina's father, Kate reached out to Edwina's grandparents and they agreed to provide a dowry so long as Edwina married a suitable Lord.
This prompted the women to return to London for the 1814 social season.
