Merrin was a Dathomirian Nightsister who lived on her homeworld of Dathomir during the Imperial Era. A survivor of General Grievous's massacre of the Nightsisters during the Clone Wars, Merrin encountered the Jedi Master Taron Malicos, who crashed on Dathomir following Order 66. Malicos, who fell to the dark side of the Force on Dathomir, manipulated Merrin, wishing to learn their magick. When the former Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis visited Dathomir in search of the Tomb of Kujet, Merrin realized Malicos was deceiving her, and worked with Kestis to defeat Malicos. With Malicos defeated, Merrin joined Kestis's crew aboard the Stinger Mantis.
