Mata Nui
Mata Nui is a fictional character in the Bionicle franchise. For the most part, he remains on the background as part of the series' mythology; it's only in the final story that he plays an active role.
He is a consciousness created by the Great Beings to control a spacefaring robot to observe other worlds and cultures. He is the guardian of the Matoran Universe, represents all virtue therein, and is himself represented by the principles of Unity, Duty, and Destiny. At the beginning of the series, Makuta Teridax rendered him unconscious and caused him to crash into the moon Aqua Magna, where his body parts became the 'islands' upon which events take place.
The Toa succeeded in awakening him but Makuta Teridax took control of his robotic body and trapped Mata Nui's spirit inside the Ignika before blasting it into outer space. The Mask of Life eventually landed on Bara Magna, where it unleashed Mata Nui's spirit and created a body for him.
