Maleficent, a beautiful pure-hearted young woman lives a idyllic life in a peaceful forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatenens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to become the land's fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal, an act that costs her wings and turns her pure heart to stone becoming "The Mistress of All Evil."
Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading King's successor and as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora that upon her sixteenth birthday she shall prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a sleep like death.

Over the next sixteen years Maleficent comes across the young princess many times and comes to realise that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the kingdom and perhaps to Maleficent's true happiness as well. She befriends the princess in hopes of keeping her away from the curse she placed upon her.
