Mafalda is an imaginary character protagonist of the comic strip of the same name created by the Argentine Joaquín Lavado, aka Quino, published from 1964 to 1973.
The series was published in newspapers, magazines and books, becoming famous throughout the world as well as becoming the subject of extensive merchandising and the protagonist of two series of animated shorts and, in 1982, of an animated feature film. Three statues have been dedicated to the character, the best known of which is between Defensa and Chile streets in the San Telmo neighborhood of Buenos Aires; there is also a commemorative plaque on the building in which the author lived when he created the character.
