Born in Brazil to Yuichiro and Brenda Matsuda, Laura was trained from childhood in the art of Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu by her grandfather, Kinjiro Matsuda. After she later became heir to the Matsuda Jiu-Jitsu style (following the departure of her older brother), Laura continued to grow in her fighting skills, reaching her peak in early adulthood.
