James Knight is a fictional veteran police detective and the central protagonist of the Detective Knight film trilogy, portrayed by Bruce Willis. He is introduced in Detective Knight: Rogue (2022) as a veteran detective working in Los Angeles. During the investigation of a series of masked robberies, Knight's partner Eric "Fitz" Fitzgerald is critically wounded, leading Knight to pursue the criminals to New York.
Knight's past and reputation become important elements of the story. In Detective Knight: Redemption (2022), he is in custody in New York after the events of Rogue and becomes involved in stopping the Christmas Bomber and his terrorist followers in exchange for the possibility of having his badge returned.
In Detective Knight: Independence (2023), Knight receives a last-minute Independence Day assignment and races to stop a rogue vigilante/EMT who is impersonating a police officer and threatening the city. The film is the third and final installment of the trilogy.
