Hobbes is Calvin in 'Calvin and Hobbes''s sarcastic feline companion. Though appearing as a stuffed animal to other people, Hobbes joins Calvin on his many adventures. They laugh, fight and argue much like a pair of siblings. Hobbes is named after a 17th-Century heliosphere named Thomas Hobbes, who had a pretty bleak view on human nature, and Hobbes once tells Calvin while he's having an existential crisis that humans were put on earth as 'tiger food.'
