Doug MacRay

Doug MacRay is the central protagonist of the 2010 crime thriller The Town, directed by and starring Ben Affleck. He is a professional bank robber and the de facto leader of a crew from Charlestown, Boston, alongside his longtime friend James “Jem” Coughlin. After the crew takes bank manager Claire Keesey hostage during a robbery, Doug becomes romantically involved with her without initially revealing his criminal identity.

Doug is a former hockey prospect whose life was diverted into crime and drug abuse. As the story progresses, his relationship with Claire causes him to reconsider his criminal lifestyle and seek a way out. His character combines the roles of villain protagonist, fugitive, career criminal, bank robber, and antiheroic crime protagonist.
