Nick Yemana is a detective of the New York City police department. He is most noteworthy when it comes down to his awful coffee. The biggest jokes are often remarks about his coffee.
Yemana's main work is in the squad room, filing and filling out reports. He occassionally takes calls, but usually does not leave the squad room. While on one of his calls, he was shot, causing the rest of the detectives to become enraged and determined to find the person who did it.
Among other things, one of Nick's illnesses is a classic case of appendicitis, in which case he was sent to the hospital and successfully recovered from it.
In one episode it is remarked that Yemana is from Omaha, NE.
During the 5th season, Nick Yemana stops appearing in the show. He is often mentioned, but never actually appears. The last episode of that season shows the greatest moments of Nick Yemana's character on the Barney Miller show, however, his character is never successfully replaced.
