Desmond was inflicted with lycanthropy as a teenager while on a hunt for food. After much time and effort, he has accepted his new werewolf nature and savors any opportunity to unleash the beast inside if the situation arises, which often does as he and his fellow Black Dice Society companions travel the dark lands of Ravenloft.
