David Stephen “Dave” Rossi is a fictional character from the CBS crime drama Criminal Minds, portrayed by Joe Mantegna. He is a veteran FBI Supervisory Special Agent and senior profiler with the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) at Quantico.

Rossi is one of the founding members of the BAU and is recognized as one of its most experienced criminal profilers. After taking early retirement to write books and lecture about criminal behavior, he returned to the FBI in 2007 following Jason Gideon's departure. His return was motivated by unfinished business involving an old unsolved case.

Before joining the FBI, Rossi served in the U.S. Marine Corps and became a Sergeant Major. His military background, extensive investigative experience, behavioral-analysis expertise, and ability to negotiate with dangerous offenders make him one of the BAU's most seasoned agents.

Rossi is also a successful author who has written books about serial killers, criminal behavior, and criminal psychology. Within the BAU, he is known for his direct personality, experience, intuition, and ability to understand the motivations of violent offenders.
