Luchino Nefaria was a wealthy Italian aristocrat, who while a traditionalist also desires greater wealth and power, drove him to join the criminal organization the Maggia. He came at odds with The Avengers and has been a recurring opponent of their's ever since. Nefaria is also the father of Madame Masque (Whitney Frost), who was a love interest of Iron Man's.

Some time later, Nefaria gained tremendous power from Living Laser, Power Man, and Whirlwind through trickery making him more deadly than ever.
