Chuck Shurley was a writer and Prophet of the Lord, who published numerous novels detailing the lives of Sam and Dean Winchester (with each novel recounting approximately one episode of the TV show.) He was inspired to write by visions he couldn't control-- extremely unpleasant visions that left him with terrible headaches, leading him to drink.
