Ava
Ava (portrayed by Rebecca Mozo) from the movie, "Headless Horseman" (2007) - is one of the central survivors in Headless Horseman, part of the group of seven friends whose road trip on Halloween night takes a deadly turn when they stumble into the cursed ghost town of Wormwood Ridge. Among the group, Ava is characterized as practical, loyal, and emotionally resilient, becoming one of the film’s leading “final girl” figures as the Horseman begins his supernatural killing spree.
From the start, Ava shows concern for her friends’ safety, often acting as a grounding force compared to the more carefree or reckless members of the group. Her role shifts dramatically after the brutal decapitation of Seth (her friend and Tiffany’s boyfriend) in the junkyard: Ava is the first to discover his body and immediately takes on a more proactive stance, warning the others and recognizing the seriousness of their situation.
Throughout the film, Ava demonstrates resourcefulness and bravery, particularly when paired with Liam. Together, they investigate Wormwood’s history in the town’s library, piecing together information about Calvin Montgomery, the serial killer whose spirit became the Headless Horseman. Ava’s inquisitiveness and determination help push the group toward understanding how to defeat the Horseman, rather than simply fleeing blindly.
As the body count rises, Ava continues to endure, proving her resilience under supernatural terror. In the climactic sequence, she joins Liam and Candy in luring the Horseman onto the bridge—knowing he cannot cross running water. Ava plays an active role in the final confrontation, helping hook the tow cable that ultimately drags the Horseman onto the bridge where he is destroyed, taking Wormwood with him.
By the end, Ava emerges as one of only three survivors—alongside Liam and Candy—marking her as a classic horror final girl archetype: brave, intelligent, and strong-willed enough to endure when nearly everyone else perishes.
