Description:
Celia Hammond is a British animal rights activist and former fashion model.
In the 1960s, Hammond dated guitarist Jeff Beck and did modeling work for Vogue magazine. At first happy to model fur, she later became concerned about the cruelty of the fur trade and took a stand against it. Singer/songwriter Donovan wrote "Celia of the Seals" as a tribute to her attitude.
In 1986, she founded the Celia Hammond Animal Trust (CHAT) with the goal of opening low-cost neutering clinics to help control Britain's feral animal population. The first of these clinics opened in Lewisham in 1995, the second in Canning Town in 19
