C.S. Forester was an English novelist known for writing tales of naval warfare, such as the 12-book Horatio Hornblower series depicting a Royal Navy officer during the Napoleonic Wars. He is also known for his 1935 novel "The African Queen", which was adapted into the 1951 Oscar-winning film of the same name starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn, and directed by John Huston. After being rejected for military service in the First World War, Forester served with the British Ministry of Information, writing propaganda for the Allied cause during World War II.
