Her mother Ata Pengpengmong is Filipino and Vietnamese and her father Guillermo (Ger-mo) Sanchez is Filipino and Puerto Rican. When Sanchez was 10 years old her parents and her moved to San Diego, California because her father was offered a job there as an accountant. As Sanchez and her family were settling in California, she started going to school right away. Sanchez says that even though she looks Asian she still gets criticism about her last name and facial features.

"People ask me about me being Asian if I have a Hispanic last name. I try to tell them that most of the time filipinos have Hispanic last names. I mean, my father is half Hispanic and that might be the reason my last name is Hispanic but as a Filipino,Vietnamese,Puerto Rican I could almost choose which nationally I want to claim myself as. I mostly claim being a filipino because both of my parents have filipino in them so Filipino is more dominate. But filipinos, even though they are from Southeast Asia, we consider ourselves Pacific Islanders"

On June 12, 2014, Brina Sanchéz married Russian doctor, Patrick Dobransky Jr in Florence, Italy.

Their relationship, engagement, and marrige were unknown to the public eye. After she ended her five month relationship with ex-boyfriend, Emmanuello Rodriguez, it was said that after seven week after her break-up, she was engaged with Patrick Dobransky. Sanchez says in an interview,

"About seven weeks after my split with Emmanuello, I was engaged to Patrick. Me and Patrick had been dating for about six weeks but I think that the reason why it's such a big deal is because I went through a breakup, go hiding for a while, come back and I'm married. Well, actually me and Patrick and I have know each other since 2008 and we have been very close ever since. My parents like Patrick but me and Patrick starting making those "certain signs of affection" is what I call it at the middle, end, and after me and Emmanuello. Emmanuello was very abusive. He wouldn't let me do anything. Absolutely nothing but he never hit me. I guess I could say he was very.... Strict."
