Brett made his stage debut in a holiday camp competition at the age of four. On winning first place, a kind American couple who were on holiday gave him half a crown and told him that he was a born entertainer. It was a huge coin, the size of his fist and it made a lasting impression on him.
He played the leads in all his school productions and would enjoy spend time fooling Portsmouth shopkeepers into believing he was a foreign exchange student. He created a fictitious radio station and would use the phonebook to call people up and by adding sound effects convince the random public that they were on the radio! He joined a local youth drama group at seventeen and felt that he should explore acting further.
The next coin he won was from the Guildhall School of Drama in the Barbican, City of London โ where he was awarded their prestigious Gold Medal for acting.
Over the years Brett has been a regular face on British television. His first break came on the cult police series Rockliffeโs Babies where he took the racist rooky detective Steve Hood. He has played guest and lead characters in series such as Silent Witness, Judge John Deed, Square Deal, Inspector Lynley Mysteries, Holby City, Last Salute, The Vet, Doctors, Jonathan Creek, Eastenders, Casualty, Hustle and Luther. He was the mesmerizing albino hitman, The Leveller in the series Resort to Murder.
His first small role in a movie included a scene with Charlton Heston in Treasure Island (1990) where he spent time in Jamaica with a young Christian Bale and Peter Postlethwaite.
His first major film role came with the part of Taktarov, a battle-worn Russian mercenary in the horror film Outpost, starring alongside Ray Stevenson, Julian Wadham and Richard Brake. Director John Hay cast Brett, as the hero fireman Paul in Lost Christmas, opposite Jason Flemyng and Eddie Izzard.
In 2012 filmed in a log cabin deep in an Illinois forest, USA, in the horror comedy feature film, 'Kill Me Now' Brett plays the psychotic serial killer โMr Grahamโ who seeks revenge against the idleness of the American teenager. He stars alongside the emerging talents of Michael Swaim and Kyle Mooney.
Brett currently lives in London and is father to two sons Jack and Harry.
