It might happen one evening lying in a cold and miserable cell; or in a hospital bed, body, cut, bruised and aching from head to foot. It might happen when a close friend decides to distance himself from you because of your beliefs; or when yet another employer "regrets that he cannot give you a job", knowing that you hold "strange, political views". It might happen that after a day which has been tiring and disappointing, you will ask yourself the question: "Is it worth it?" Or "Why am I doing this at all?" At least once in the life of every serious militant, it happens that we come to question everything we believe in; or even that we are plunged into a full blown crisis of belief. It is at such times in our lives that two elements can rescue us.
The first is those Ideas, which we have nurtured for long years, which still make sense in our heads, and which even under the terrible and painful scrutiny of the doubting mind can provoke us to exclaim: "I believe!" The second element is that the sacrifice of blood has touched us once in the deepest recesses of our soul. It may have only touched us in the pages of a book, a book that told of the sacrifice of militants, perhaps in another part of the world; militants without hope of success, a sacrifice which appears to our eyes as something pure, solemn, sublime, yet something wholly simple. As the proverb states: "The blood of the Martyrs is dearer to God than the ink of the philosophers." This is, and always will be, the case. But if the Political Soldier neglects to ask himself why he is doing what he is doing, it is inevitable that his Actions will become less pure, and might, one day, lead to betrayal. Thus, we must nourish our minds regularly with the idea of the new and better world that we wish to create, and from this our heart must discover the resolution and strength to make it a reality.
This short work is going to touch upon a great many subjects. Before us, we will have the words of thinkers, ideologues and philosophers who have changed the hearts, beliefs and lives of people, collectively as well as individually, and who continue to do so long after their deaths. Before us too, we will have the words of leaders, men riding the waves of a movement which stands heroically for Europe, and for her also die. Through these writings of diverse thinkers and leaders there runs a common thread, that of love of country; love of people; Nationalism.
