Magic realism is over, magic capitalism is up. For fans of Woody Allen and Michael Chabon. This is an utterly comic novel, that introduces the reader to a miraculous world of Chinese piracy, to Chinatown in Buenos Aires, and one of the funniest romantic comedies of its time. The whole town is looking for a mysterious incendiary called "el Fosforito" (the little match), who is said to always escape the scenery of his crime on bicycle - after all, he is Chinese. When Li is caught on the following incident, he takes a hostage: Ramiro, the narrator of this novel. He carries him off to Buenos Aires Chinatown, and the two start to become friends. Like a queer version of the Stockholm-syndrome, Ramiro is more and more enchanted by his kidnappers and his surrounding, where he does not understand a word, but is having the greatest sex of his life. Everything is put upside down in this world: When his kidnapper asks him to take part in a big robbery - though he feels no criminal energy whatsoever -, when his love-mate wants to have a child with him and when Li admits to everything having been a mistake, when he finds out that Li is not even able to ride a bike and that the jewish conspiration against the world is in fact a Chinese one - he finally realizes that his life as a hostage has only been a short dream.
