The greatest mystery of that wonderful alchemy that a bunch of English kids created from the end of the Sixties onward comes out from a deep analysis of the 40 years old Genesis saga. The question is: how could it be possible that Tony Banks (the one who has always personified the sound and composition in Genesis the most notwithstanding the uniqueness of the writers collective) was the only one member to have had a so low solo career profile? It's not only a question of sales figures, but also of simple artistic cult: Tony Banks outside his main band remains a shadowy figure, only known to the hardcore fans, the ones who - as Tony himself would say- would buy anything coming from the Genesis camp.
This book, the first in the world to be dedicated to the keyboard player's solo career, tries to highlight and bring to the English band fans' attention a slim, but interesting and fascinating individual body of work, that embraced rock, classical music and the soundtracks world, but that often revealed the artist's frustration in not seeing his talent recognized, especially on a commercial level. A field that Banks tried many different times to conquer, but always unsuccessfully.
It goes without saying that he gave his all important contribution in Genesis not only in creating the great progressive rock masterworks, but also in writing hit singles that owe as much to him as to Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford.
That's why the book subtitle is โMan Of Spellsโ. The magician capable of bringing out from his creative hat the most intelligent intuitions, but at the same time the victim of an evil spell that stops him from savour the victories he would deserve.
Like the previous two volumes of the โGenesis Filesโ series, which were about Phil Collins and Steve Hackett and published in 2005, this book also features appendix written by Banksโ experts like Alessandro Berni and Francesco Gazzara. The book also features more than 60 pictures, half of which are in full color.
