This book is structured in four parts. The first part deals with the rise of the Nazi party in Germany to 1933. It is written in note form in order to analyse the topic in terms of circumstances favorable to the radical right in Germany during the years of the Weimar Republic and the opportunities provided by the political instability of the democratic system and the cataclysmic effects of the Great Depression after 1929. What must not be forgotten, however, are the ambitions and misguided intrigues of the last two chancellors before January 1933, von Papen and von Schleicher, who effectively opened the door to Hitler’s appointment by President Hindenburg. We also need to appreciate the organisation and strengths of the NSDAP under Hitler’s leadership and its readiness for power by 1933 due to the careful appeal to the German electorate and the threat of force represented by the SA or Brownshirts. The second and third parts are in essay form and examine the concepts of race and socialism within the Nazi party. The final section, also in essay form, examines the origins of the Second World War in Europe and how it could have been avoided.
