A Selva by Ferreira de Castro

The Selva is a document with aesthetic treatment on the life of the rubber tappers in the Amazon forest, witnessed by the author who, as an "exile", was "imprisoned" in the jungle for the extraction of latex during the period from 1910 to 1914, when The first major rubber cycle was in crisis. The book addresses the human dimension of the thousands of men who went into the forest seduced by ambition, by false promises of easy wealth, to escape the drought in Ceará or misery in some Portuguese village.
