Papacy & the Jews: Reconciliation at Last
This book seeks a ‘common thread’ through the topics it covers in Papal-Jewish relations: the Deicide issue, the first millennium, the Fourth Council of the Lateran, the Inquisition, the Holocaust and the post World War II period down to the present. Only after the Holocaust does Nostra Aetate show acceptance of the Jews and Judaism with a measure of respect. It is safe to say that the present day Papacy - John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis - has achieved permanent reconciliation with the Jewish people by actively supporting their right to practice Judaism.
