I feel no shame for admitting that I am head over heels in love with this book! There is absolutely everything right with it, and the fact that I've read it about four times says enough!
The adventures of Bilbo Baggins, before the whole "Lord of the Rings" epidemic, are light and transient, full of mirth and good cheer. Although there is no mention of Christmas or the Holidays, this work is bathed in that euphoric feeling we tend to associate with that time of year. It is both a book for children and adults, able to hold the meandering attentions of both, and challenge them with noble ideas(like, staying to the Right Path in Mirkwood forest, etc.) which shows the true scope and genius of Tolkien's writing.
If you have never read this book, punish yourself no longer, and indulge that tiny, hobbit voice inside of you begging to go along with Mr. Baggins on his year long journey. You will be ever glad you did!
