This is a collection of letters that were written by servicemen, either on active service at the Western Front during WW1 or by those convalescing, to a Red Cross Nurse called Dorothy. They have been transcribed by Dorothy's granddaughter, Diana, who as the author of the book and includes notes, photographs and illustrations as well as a biography. Most of the photos are from Dorothy's own albums. The letters, arranged in chronological order for each serviceman, give the reader an idea of how the Great War developed and influenced their understanding of what they were going through.
