Arrow Over the Door

Told in alternating viewpoints of two young men—Stands Straight, an Abenaki, and Samuel Russell, a Quaker—Arrow Over the Door is based on an actual incident that took place between the Abenaki and the Quakers during the time of the American Revolutionary War. Joe Bruchac is a gifted writer, and one of the things he does very well is breathe life into historical events. Stands Straight and Samuel Russell are real people, and the story will remind young readers that “the way of peace…can be walked by all human beings.” b/w illustrations by James Watling.
