The style of eurodance was dance music with a female singer and a male rapper. Aqua followed a more traditional verse-chorus structure. Usually, the verse would consist of Lene starting and finishing, while René would sing in the middle. Aqua are best known for the dance tracks such as "Barbie Girl", "Doctor Jones", "Lollipop (Candyman)" and "My Oh My". Although they also made slower tracks such as "Turn Back Time", "Good Morning Sunshine" and "We Belong to the Sea". These tracks do not belong to the general bubblegum pop genre. There is also differences between the first album Aquarium and the second album Aquarius. Aquarium had many similar tracks whereas Aquarius experimented with acoustic instruments and genres like country and Latin music. At the end of the 1990s the interest for eurodance music was dropping. Aqua's second album, Aquarius, which was released in 2000, was therefore not as well timed as the first one. Their 2011 single "How R U Doin?" has electropop and dance-pop qualities.

Aquarium is the debut studio album by Danish-Norwegian band Aqua. The album was released on September 9, 1997. Although the group had been together for three years under their original name Joyspeed, their only release up to Aquarium was a single called "Itzy Bitsy Spider". The album is best known for including three UK number ones in "Barbie Girl", "Doctor Jones" and "Turn Back Time", the first of those being a huge hit across the globe and a platinum seller Stateside.
The release of "Barbie Girl" took the four-piece group onto the A-List of European music, meaning that when the album was released a month later in November 1997 pop fans everywhere went out to buy it. The album would peak at number 6 in the UK charts. While not a million seller like "Barbie Girl", the album's second single "Doctor Jones" was released in 1998 and became a UK number one, staying at the top for two weeks in February. The third release "Turn Back Time" would give the group another week at Number One, and further releases "My Oh My" and "Good Morning Sunshine" would peak at number 6 and number 18, respectively, in the UK charts. This is the group's best-selling album with over 10 million copies sold worldwide.

Aquarius is the second studio album by Danish group Aqua, released on February 28, 2000. The album debuted at No. 82 in the U.S. and spent 6 weeks total on the Billboard 200. This is a significant drop from their last album Aquarium, which peaked at No. 7 and spent 50 total weeks on the chart.
The lead single, "Cartoon Heroes", peaked at No. 7 in the UK in February 2000 and received top 10 positions globally except for the U.S where it failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single, "Around the World", peaked at No. 26 in UK and was the last release in most territories before the band split in 2001.
Scandinavia and other European countries saw further releases of "Bumble Bees" and "We Belong to the Sea" during late 2000, both receiving only moderate success.

Cartoon Heroes: The Best of Aqua is a greatest hits album by the Danish dance-pop group Aqua. It was released solely in Japan on May 22, 2002.
The set includes most of the hit singles that Aqua released, with the excised singles being "We Belong to the Sea", "Good Morning Sunshine", and "Didn't I".
The album also includes, however, songs that were not released as singles such as "Back from Mars", "Halloween" and "Freaky Friday". There is a remix of "Cartoon Heroes" as well as two music videos.
Greatest Hits is the second greatest hits album by Danish band Aqua, released on June 15, 2009. Although it is their second greatest hits album, it is the first one to be released internationally (the previous only being released in Japan). The album includes digitally remastered versions of sixteen songs from Aqua's two previous studio albums, and three new songs: "Back to the 80's", "My Mamma Said", and "Live Fast - Die Young".
A special edition re-issue was released in Denmark on November 16, 2009. It includes a new song, "Spin Me A Christmas", and replaces "Be a Man" with "Good Morning Sunshine". It also includes a DVD with a live recording of Aqua at Tivoli in Copenhagen on August 7, 2009. The DVD track listing features the unreleased song "Shakin' Stevens (Is a Superstar)", which supposedly were written for the band's third studio album before their split in July 2001.
Greatest Hits peaked at number one in Denmark and therefore was released in the rest of Europe on September 22, 2009, but without repeating the same success.
"Back to the 80's" was released digitally as the lead single of the album on May 25, 2009. It is Aqua's first single in eight years. On May 25, it premiered on the Danish radio channel Radio 100FM. The song reached number one in Denmark knocking the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest winner Alexander Rybak's song "Fairytale" off the top spot for five weeks. "My Mamma Said" was released as the second single from the album on June 25, 2009. Previously, the song had already reached #11 on the Danish Singles Chart.
The new song made for the Special Edition re-release "Spin Me a Christmas", was released in time for Christmas on November 16, 2009. ... (more)
