Life
Early life and education
Anja Knauer attended the Carl-von-Ossietzky-Gymnasium in Hamburg-Poppenbüttel. [1] After graduating from high school, she moved to Berlin to study film and literature at the Free University of Berlin, where she worked as an actress and took professional acting lessons at the same time. She completed her studies with a master's thesis on the topic of "Authenticity in Film". In 2010, she worked as an interior designer for the Michelberger Hotel in Berlin. [1] Since 2012, she has been writing freelance for daily newspapers and blogs. [1]

Film and television
At the age of 17, Knauer was discovered by a talent scout in a shopping mall and made her acting debut in a supporting role as one of two little sisters in Martin Gies' ZDF television film Kleine Einbrecher. [1] Since then, she has appeared in numerous film and television productions. [1] During this time, she also had leading roles in the television films Breakfast for Four (also 1997) and Die Angst in meinem Herz (1999). In 2000, Knauer was cast by director Dagmar Hirtz alongside Matthias Schweighöfer in the fairy tale comedy Küss mich, Frosch in the leading role of the young schoolgirl Anna Sandmann. This film role, in which she also used several vocal interludes with Schweighöfer, earned her an Emmy nomination, the Emil and the Erich Kästner Television Prize. [1]

From 1997 onwards, Knauer starred in numerous television series and series, including Alphateam – Die Lebensretter im OP, SK Kölsch, Für alle fälle Stefanie, Ein Fall für zwei, Inga Lindström, Rosamunde Pilcher, Das Traumschiff and Der Staatsanwalt. In the 2010 three-part crime series Inspector LaBréa, she starred alongside Francis Fulton-Smith as Lieutenant Corinne Dupont. From 2018 to 2020, she took on the title role as Filipa Wagner in the six-part ARD television series Die Inselärztin.

Private life
Anja Knauer's younger brother Tim Knauer (born 1981) is a voice actor. [1] She has one daughter (born 2019). [2]
