On July 18, 1997 became the player younger than ever to compete in the Russian Super League. The same date scored three points for his local team, Spartak San Petesburgo. Two years after proving his skill in this relatively unknown site, he joined CSKA Moscow in 1998. Already in its first year in the new team, he helped to get the Super League title. During the same period, he was selected to integrate the game of the Russian star. On June 30, 1999, with only 18 years of age, became the youngest European player to be chosen to participate in the NBA. The Utah Jazz was selected in the 24th position, but decided to leave it two seasons in his native land. During the season 1999-2000 helped CSKA Moscow achieve the title both in the European basketball league and in the local tournament. Once again was chosen to join the team of the West in the succeeding 138-107 against the East team. At the same time, he won tournament overturned in that contest. Finally came the 2001-02 season and his trip to the United States to join the staff of the Utah Jazz. That same year he was elected to represent the NBA All-Rookie Team. From that moment became one of the most popular players in the NBA, by being really young and get as much achievements despite being foreign. Many people compared the "Ivan Drago" character from the movie Rocky IV and (his initials and his Jersey number, as well as the most famous rifle of Russian manufacture) have nicknamed him AK-47. In 2003 he became the leader of the Jazz, since John Stockton decided to retire from the NBA and Karl Malone went to play with the Los Angeles Lakers. That same year the Jazz lost the opportunity of entering the Playoffs by only a lost party. However, Kirilenko was the best player of campus in nearly every category that rewards the NBA. In the middle of the season 2004-05, in a game against the Washington Wizards, he suffered a wrist fracture. This forced him to set aside his participation for the rest of the Championship. Despite having played only 41 of 82 official games for the Jazz this season, it reached to have enough blocked shots to be elected to the NBA All-Defensive Team. Now fully healed, returned to play in the 2005-06 season to become the player with the most shots blocked inside the NBA: 220. Once again participated in the NBA All-Defensive Team. The 2006-07 season was a terrible disappointment for Kirilenko career, since virtually all his statistics fell widely. The good thing about this is that it is due to the new offensive power the jazz to join Carlos Boozer, Deron Williams and Mehmet Okur.
