Born on November 29, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Herbert and Caryenne Wickman, Allyn -whose name means "precious"- was raised in Texas and Indiana, graduating from Reitz High School in 1948. She settled in California where she began a modeling career for swimwear and fashion. She never won beauty titles, but was a finalist in such pageants as Pan-Am Queen of 1946 and Queen of the Home Show of 1955. She modeled makeup for Max Factor and Indian imports between pageants.
