Imauri Ali Chapman was born in Decatur, Illinois, to Brenda, a beauty therapist, and Elvin Chapman, a civil engineer. She is of African American, Native Indian and Irish descent. After being raised in Indianapolis most of her life, in January of 2007 she broke into the entertainment industry as Willow Smith's (Will Smith's daughter) stand-in/stunt double in Francis Lawrence's "I Am Legend".
