Raised by a religious family in the suburbs of Orlando, Florida, Mixi made up her mind to move to Los Angeles, California, her boyfriend at the time followed her. Once in Los Angeles, Mixi and her boyfriend split. She found herself homeless, struggling to survive as an artist. She stayed on the West Coast and joined the band Anti Product.Later fronting an all-female punk/rock group called Dragstrip Kitty,Alecia appeared on an episode of the TruTV networks "Speeders". An advertisement on the Internet brought her to Fuse TV's brand new 2008 reality television series Redemption Song.Hoping her smooth, jazzy voice might be her ticket to stardom, Mixi never gave up on her dreams of making it in the music industry. Now that she has scored a recording contract with Geffen Records, the hard work, pressure and daily demands will only intensify. But, Mixi believes that she is as ready as she will ever be to record her debut album, and, true to her risk-taking nature, is going for something wildly out there. "In my first meeting with Ron Fair after the show, I told him I wanted to do a big band thing with a hip hop beat, and it didn't seem like he was getting it," she says. "So I thought, 'I need to show him what I hear in my mind,' and I put a song together.
