In a 2017 interview with GQ Magazine, Akala said he originally went vegan for health reasons. “I’ve been a vegan for ten years. I did a lot of research and I came to the conclusion that animal products are not the optimum food for human health. It was nothing to do with animal rights, and all of that stuff, that came later,” he said. “Originally it was just to do with health, and I do personally feel much better now.“"
