Agnes Monica Muljoto was born in Jakarta to a family of Chinese, Japanese, and German ancestry. She was initially known as a child artist. At the age of six, she began recording songs for the first of her children's music albums, while she also became a Television Host for several kids TV show's then she transformed into a professional singer who had an extraordinary influence on pop culture in Indonesia, so that MTV Asia gave her namely as a "Queen of Indonesia Pop Powerhouse".
In between her schedule as a teenage artist, Agnez often trained her vocal skills as a Gospel singer at a Church in Jakarta. She released her first teen album And the Story Goes in 2003 of which three songs on this music album being in the topped picked position music chart of MTV Indonesia and VH1 Indonesia, which catapulted her name in the Indonesian music industry. Her success in Indonesia encouraged her to target the international music scene. In 2010, she became a host red carpet for American Music Awards, which made her the first and only Indonesian singer ever be a part of this event. In early 2020, She received an award as Top Social Artist given by Billboard Indonesia after an assessment of hers artistic performance, strong influence on the music industry and social aspects as well as charity acts that had been carried out and also engagement on social media platform, the award was given on the Billboard Indonesia Music Award ceremony. Previously on 2018, in program of 'Artist of The Week' Billboard Vietnam give her honorary as "The Best Southeast Asia Artist - Indonesia"
Agnez is an anti-drug ambassador in Asia and the ambassador of MTV EXIT in combating human trafficking. Agnez has also claimed the title of entrepreneur, showcasing her own fashion line ANYE, APP, Digital Marketplace, and partnering with cell phone manufacturer Vivo to create her own limited-edition line of devices. In 2022, she made a history by becoming the first and only Indonesian artist to be immortalized through a wax statue at Madame Tussauds museums in two countries. On 2023, she was selected for representing Indonesia at the Grammy Global Spin, and became the first Indonesian musician to perform solo at the event. Her song "Patience" (2024) reached into US Billboard Chart that is R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Adult R&B Songs, beforehand single music "Overdose" (2018) featuring Chris Brown has been reached on Hot R&B Songs, and at the same year, Agnez was trusted to be the first Indonesian singer to appear at the Billboard Live Session event which was broadcast live from Billboard headquarters in New York.
The quality of her music and stage act has been widely recognized so that she became the first Indonesian singer to be nominated as Best Asia Pacific Act and Best Southeast Asia Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards and Rolling Stone Indonesia gave her the title as a "Young Diva of Indonesia" in its article and she was the first female soloist singer to be featured on the cover of the magazine.
Apart from being the Indonesian artist with the highest income, her artistic quality has been recognized with several award, and gave her the position as the Indonesian female singer with the most awards, such as over 190 awards, including 18 Anugerah Musik Indonesia, 8 Panasonic Awards, 2 Indonesian Television Awards, 5 Nickelodeon Indonesia Kids' Choice Awards, 4 MTV Indonesia Awards, 2 Mnet Asian Music Awards, 1 iHeartRadio Music Awards, 1 LINE Indonesia Awards and World Music Award for World Best Indonesia Entertainer.
