Losing Points

Who all out there is losing points and subsequently dropping in rank? If so, do you know why or do we have a problem going on here?

I think the main source of lost points is the 10 views on pictures that is needed after 3 months for the pictures to count towards points. I've been losing loads of points recently, and dropped rank quite a bit, and it's because of the pictures points being lost after 3 months.
It does seem a shame that all the work finding decent copies of the pictures (when posssible) and putting them on Listal ends up not counting after a few months towards points if not many people have clicked on them.

That seems logical! Thanks for the input SilverCloud! I agree with your opinion as well!

I'm going through the same thing. I just wish I knew how to promote some of my lists.

SilverCloud pretty much explained it, but also, when a member deletes their account, ALL of their votes disappear as well.

1. I think that the concept of losing your points if a pic has not been viewed after 3 months is actually pretty good. It was set up because some users would upload back in those days 1000s of pics everyday just to get more points and not to add real content to the website. The whole idea is that you should add pics to improve the website, not your points or your rank.
2. To promote your list is actually not that difficult. There are several techniques. First of all, put some effort in your lists : add pics, comments (preferably your own and not from some other website), be creative. Secondly, you can promote it yourself. You can spam everyone if you like (but it is usually really annoying) or gently remind the people that you know or the people that you think might be interested that you have created a new list and ask them to check it out.

I never even knew there were points!
tbh I just use the site to offload my opinions in a broad list format - hopefully someone will find films or music or tv shows on my lists, which pique their interest or simply gives an alternative view for them to consider
@johanlefourbe - one area I really appreciate is when a list is well formatted and presented - another aspect is when someone comes up with a new angle for a list
One area the site could improve is in easier formatting and creating a list about one subject ...one specific film/album or TV show

Maybe instead of focusing on rising up a ladder with stupid points, you could be doing your own little thing from your little corner and making useful content?
I don't even worry about that stupid rank.

I'm at 838. I don't want to go lower than 835...

Then, do something about it. Create a badass list, write some reviews, add some pics for your favorite people or movies. It is pretty much up to you.
The bottom line is if you are not active on this website, your ranking will sink slowly but surely.

that is easy to say, but when you dont have time to add as much content as you would want to (wich is my case), is it really fair to lose points for it, i mean points are not very important that is true but they can serve as a method of "inspiring" people to contribute more to the website, if because some reason you just cant do that is it really fair to be taken off all your points?

Well, I was being humorously sarcastic with my post, but I do appreciate your concern. The problem, such that one exists, with the point system is that it's a double-edged sword. As johan explained earlier, the 90-day/10 view rule was put in place to prevent spammers from dumping all 100 pics of the latest hot model strutting down the Victoria's Secret catwalk and getting full credit. For example, just because I think someone is hot doesn't mean everyone does and therefore I lose pic credits too from time to time. It's the nature of society in general, so don't beat yourself up about it too much.

well i wasnยดt referring to you specifically, but i do get your point, and im not beating myself about it, like i said oints dont really matter to me, i was just trying to say that things could work better if they where done a different way.

Of course points do not tell anything about the *quality* of someone's contributions.
They only tell about the *quantity*.
If someone has a high rank, that means he or she contributed a lot.
A lot of interesting stuff, or a lot of rubbish, that depends on the person!
Then we can discuss *how* points are given. Personally, I would give double points if you upload a few pictures to a profile that has no images at all, because I feel sad when I see a profile with the "Upload a picture" icon! :)

I would argue that votes are more important than points, there are plenty of accounts on here with a huge quantity of lists, but with very few votes on those lists, which suggests to me that the lists are pretty much just a load of old toss created only to harvest points. It really grates with me when I see some idiot banging through numerous lists in an hour... all with fewer than ten items... it just seems so pointless.

Well, yes, votes are more important than points to me too, although lists of scantly clad babes can get lots of votes with little effort, so I wouldn't say votes are always an indicator of high quality either. Also, there can be fakes, there can be votes in exchange for votes, there can be votes for friends, etc... Both votes and points are not so important as the satisfaction in doing something I just enjoy doing, regardless of votes and points.
From the web site's point of view, both votes and points can help keep people contributing. It's just human. :)

Most of my pictures get around 3-6 views! But if you're losing points, they're not everything to Listal! And there are loads of alternatives to getting points (many more) - adding videos (never mind the views), creating lists, writing reviews, etc. of which I am successful with! But points aren't everything and the views your picture has is like votes, if people like it, they will want to look at and probably even vote for it!
