How to rate and list items.

I recieve PMs daily saying 'how do I do this?', 'how do I do that?', I've knocked this little thing up for those who want to know how to rate and list items. If we dont think this is something for the groups, Ill delete it. But it saves me telling everyone via PM for the time being.
To rate an item. In the search bar in the top right hand corner, type the name of the item you wish to find. This example uses the film 'Star Wars'.
The tab to the right of the search bar allows you to filter your search, through different medias (movie, tv etc), artists (authors, actors etc) and video game platform. In this example, the movies filter is selected. Then click 'all'.
A page of movies which meet your criteria will appear. To rate the movie, click on the stars to rate it out of ten, select 'watched' to add it to the list of movies you have watched. If you want to watch a movie, just ignore the rating and click 'want to watch'. In this example I have rated and watched all of the 'Star Wars' movies (Just love 'em).
The 'My Stuff' tab will drop down to reveal the different medias. Now your 'movies' page should have some content!
Recently added movies, top rated movies and your actors and directors will appear (you can rate actors, directors, artists etc aswell). Eventually your marks out of ten will enable Listal to generate a compatibility rating between you and other members. If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you will now be able to construct a 'custom list'. Click on 'create new list'.
You dont have to only list movies, here you can select the media you wish to list. This will filter your search when you begin to construct your list. Cross-media lists (i.e Film and TV) cannot be made. Type the title of the list in the bar. This example is generating a 'Greatest Westerns' list, and has selected the 'movies' option. Click, the 'create list an add items' bar.
Now select, 'Rearrange or add to list' on the right-hand side.
Type the name of the item you wish to add in the search bar. In this example I wish to add the movie 'Tombstone' to my list of 'Greatest Westerns'. Click on 'Search Titles'. A thumbnail list of movies will appear with the word 'tombstone' in the title, identify the particular item you wish to add, drag and drop it to the section underneath. Repeat this process to add other titles to the list. You can click on the list name, in blue, to view your list in full. If you wish to delete items from the list, drag them from the bottom to the red bar, reading 'drop items here to remove from list'.

Brillant. Perfect for the newcomers :]

great idea. Tom, we should use this (and make up other threads) and make them easy to find for newcomers. I'd like to make an FAQ on how to make great visual lists with HTML code and such.

I think a FAQ would be an awesome addition to this site.
It would make things alot easier for newcomers, and for users who have been here but have just began using this site.

I suggested the same when I first joined as I was having difficulties with the profile editor. An FAQ section, perhaps with a link on the main Listal page, would be incredibly helpful to new members.
Well done, Gem! ;)

Oh, yes, I'd still love a FAQ from time to time, as I keep finding new ways to interact with this site. It would be a great resource.

I vote for the FAQ page, too!! Since I just joined within the last couple of weeks, I have definitely run into some listal features that I am clueless about and searching thru the forums is getting me absolutely nowhere. An FAQ section would be immensely helpful. You could even try and set it up where it sends the link in a message to new members and encourage them to read it and refer back to it if they have any basic questions.
