You think that Gaga is original or at least she’s trying to be with all her different, crazy and outrageous outfits? After seeing these pictures, you may reconsider your opinion. She is a real copy paste actually…
Agree with Bael. Actually, her clothing in "Telephone", for what I saw in the picture, because I didn't the videoclip, is more a copy of Klaus Nomi than of Gwen Stefani.
Please tell me that you've got someone else appearing in kermits, steak, and a womb. This list doesn't surprise me at all, but thanks for illustrating what I'm hoping most of the non-14 year old population already knows!
I still don't get what people see in her that is so amazing. She is ugly, use voice modulators and copies practically every single woman who has ever stepped on a stage to sing...
@voodoo: from "before she went gaga" she apparently can hold a note and is competent on the piano, so people think that she's ~*~SUPER TALENTED~*~ and different from other mindless pop stars.
I can't figure out why no one points out that Let's Dance and Poker Face are exactly the same songs note-for-note but with different lyrics.
For me is just a phenomenon made by stylyst, hair-stylist and press...
She will deflate like a balloon in a few years...
In this case you explore only her style..But listen to her last song "Born this Way" Is identical to "Expres yourself"
by Madonna...
as much as i find her incredibly pathetic and repugnant when she started dressing like louise brooks was when i truly had contempt for her. plus, i'm sick of singers thinking wearing fetish wear makes them edgy.
It's not Gaga's dirty little secret that she is, as was never more poignantly put, "copy/paste". She's doing it on purpose, and she talks about it in interviews. She calls herself a student of fame; and everything she does and wears is painstakingly planned out down to the tiniest detail. She's not the first person who used someone else's works to make a statement, but she might be the one who does it best.
That's my opinion; I don't expect anyone else to agree with it. I'm a Gaga fan, and I think she's intelligent and interesting. And yes, she does have talent when it comes to music.
Please, this list is just awful. There's some clothes Gaga already said was insipirated in some artists like Madonna and Minogue, but there are some comparisons in this list that are laughable.
If Lady Gaga goes out with a white t-shirt, everyone will say "omg madonna wore a white t-shirt 20 years ago omg gaga copied her"
Please, you're jealous because Lady Gaga is making success , stop that.
What's weird about her is not just these outfits but that she wears them in everyday life and not just when she makes appearances and in concerts. She does have some talent though, I was nearly blown away by her performance of "Paparazzi" on SNL a year or two ago.
Very nicely put, abigailpearl. I couldn't have said it better myself. :]
I'm definitely a Gaga fan and, honestly, I think she does most of the looks that she's 'copied' better than the originals ever dreamed of rocking theirs.
Besides, so many looks have been done in the industry, I imagine that it's hard for people to come up with anything that's going to be completely new. Most just freshen up and revamp previous wardrobes and styles, obviously. It's going to happen, people.
You think that Gaga is original or at least she’s trying to be with all her different, crazy and outrageous outfits? After seeing these pictures, you may reconsider your opinion. She is a real copy paste actually…
This list points out to people who think she's original or has anything original to say, that she, in fact, is just taking what came before and trotting it back out again. She's not outrageous and she's not original. It doesn't have anything to do with her as a songwriter, musician, or singer.
Perhaps YOU don't care for her; but after seeing her HBO special, SNL and today on the view (and that show my friend is 'Pressure'. I see her as a tiny little 5-1'(105lbs) kid
with an outrageous voice. She tries to come off 'Bizarre' and does it well. There have been so many pop stars/outfits; it's a little hard not to look like someone from the 'past'.
Her album hits today. Let's see how it does. Copy/paste. Give me a break.
hmm the gwen stefani one.. gagas video is inspired by tarantino movies which are a copy of sexploitation, grindhouse films. that scene is jus ta copy/inspired by women in prison films from the grindhouse era. i dont think she was necessarily copying gwen. i do think she copies Madonna all the time, but its not like she doesnt admit to be "inspired" by all these artists.
i cant stand this ugly tranny! i agree with dmk46 about the fact that its almost impossible for a pop star to wear something that hasnt been worn before by another pop star but gaga DOES copy madonna constantly! its getting to the point where EVERYTHING she does is a rip-off or lame imitation of something madonna did in the 80s or 90s. her "shock tactics" are wearing thin and hopefully, she/he will burn out in the next couple years! i cant stand looking at that hideous face!
She's not a bad singer, however this game of wearing and copying these people's styles on "purpose" isn't reeeally holding up. I see the side of her making a statement and the other viewpoint of her copying and I must say that she's just flat out copying people and doing it on purpose isn't really making sense and not likely.
don't really care if she copies other cause despite all those she copies there are still so many of her outfits that's original ;)
when you find all the similarities you don't think about all the things that are different!
and there's many of her outfits here thats not alike the others ;)
A local radio show did a spot about some of her songs that were essentially the same as Madonna’s as well...
I would say she is a good entertainer but she certainly not original.
I love when people have nothing better to do than make comments about things they know nothing about. Forming an opinion without knowledge is really stupidity at it's best. Gaga pays homage to other artists with her tributes to their past looks. Her latest video it a tribute to Pat Benatar. Many of her videos emulate other videos and artists; it is the most complimentary thing you can do to honor people you admire. She is not denying the source of her fashion statements. Learn before you speak.
WOAH! Now I know why I didn't notice, she's not copying one person but a lot of the big people in the industry nowadays! I didn't like her before, I like her a lot less now. Cool list!
Lady Gaga is a good piano player, a semi passable singer and a questionable song writer that rips off other artists musically. Her "look", be it an intentional rip-off or not, is still a rip off. Saying it's intentional just tells me you have nothing original to say or do and that you are a fame whore.
Not a fan, but I think she's very smart to be able to sucker so many people into her deception.
I think there might be three issues here that are getting confused.
Firstly, because so many people do appreciate Lady Gaga as being original and unfortunately aren't aware of many of the people that she's ripping of (for as people of said there are heaps of people not even in this list, for example David Bowie), I think this list is a valid statement. It shouldn't be dismissed as being ignorant of the fact that Lady Gaga was intentionally copying people for some sort of aesthetic effect. If she was her fans should be aware of this and not bother the rest of the world by going on about how truly creative she is.
Secondly, if (as many of you have said) Lady Gaga is intentionally copying people as a form of artistic expression then everyone has the right to ask what the worth of such expression is. Also, everyone has the right to consider that worth to be nada. Again the fact that she might have been doing something unoriginal intentionally does not excuse her from being judged for her unoriginality.
Thirdly, but this is just my personal opinion, I cannot understand how Gaga, who so obviously appreciates such truly creative artists, can be satisfied with her own artistic accomplishments to date. If she has such great taste why is she making such tasteless (or at least in my opinion) music? Or course the music might not be the point, the art piece she might really care about is the whole spectacle of her life. But judging her as a musician, one feels that she is not even trying to create good music. I believe that she could be quite a talented person, possibly, but her general attitude seems to be that people like shit music, I'll give them shit music. For all I knoe perhaps she even thinks, I can copy people because a lot of people want know who I am copying and will consider me original, but when people call me a copy-cat I will say its a part of my artistic self-expression.
Also the point I was trying to get at in the end was that Lady Gaga seems to represent a failure to even try and be creative, which perhaps says more about the world we live in then it does about whether she is talented or not.
If anyone's interested I know Camille Paglia wrote an article about Lady Gaga in which she calls her a respresentation of the "death of sex". Not sure what it's called though.
God, she's a talentless hack.
I can't figure out why no one points out that Let's Dance and Poker Face are exactly the same songs note-for-note but with different lyrics.

great job
Great list, Coby! Thanks for putting it together!
Great list!
There's something called "Culture Industry" - this idea was introduced by Adorno and Horkheimer. You guys should read it.

sweet list, I liked it

no much of a Gaga fan myself.
BON APPETIT!

I would say she is a good entertainer but she certainly not original.
I think she copies Bjork more than anyone. Bjork for me was the original cooky artist.
I can't count the number of times my neighbour posts on facebook how 'original' and 'unique' Gaga is.
I laugh every single time at such lies!
BE CREATIVE!!!!

have not "of" in the first paragraph
won't not "want" in the last paragraph
