Review of the Month

I think they should be scouted out or nominated as people come across them... It's always nicer to point out fellow members' good work than say "read all my shit and then judge me."

Are there plans on distinguishing between areas? Like best book review, best movie review, best music review, etc.? I think some members are stronger in some areas than others, and it might encourage people to make more efforts across the board, rather than only reviewing movies.

What sort of "prize" would one get for being the reviewer of the month besides the title??

I like this though. It'd also be nice to recognize the older reviews too, not just the newer ones. I'm sure there were a few good ones back then if you dig deep and hard enough.

Like GB says, this is an offshoot of this thread, though Gunza also had the idea before I posted is. The purpose of that contest (as I assume is this one's) is to give people examples of both solid and dynamic use of the list tool in order to give new members a taste of what's available at their fingertips as well as to promote unique and new ideas.

I never even considered submitting entries specicially for a constest. We'll have to do seasonal list contests after listal's popularity grows a little. This reminds me of something they do on the MMORPG Furcadia where "Dream" (essentially sublevels of the game) creation contests are held for different seasons and holidays, like Christmas and Summer. They'll submit their entries and the best ones are featured in the primary event's "Dream" while the creators receive awards like "Dragon for Life" status that have no merit outside the confines of Furcadia.

I want to throw this back in the limelight. I think the reviews and lists on this site deserve more recognition somehow. I say this because at the moment, the top rated reviews still don't have that many votes. I'm not saying they all deserve more, it just doesn't seem to reflect the amount of active users listal has.

There could be an automated award of 'review of the month' whereby the review with the most 'votes per view' list gets the prize? Then it is advertised either on the explore reviews page, or somewhere else. That would save the hassle of having members vote in the forum for reviews as that is always time consuming.

How about some other stars/medals for top reviewers/viewed reviews too? A little start that appears on your profile that links to your review page (it could happen on our groups profile too, though I think the stars are ugly there!). Just some thoughts.

These ideas would work very well, definitely something that should be considered. Some form of IP ban on votes would be necessary though, to stop people voting for their own things via alt account. Its so lame to think that people will actually do that!
