Suggestion for books section

Yeah.. this whole "Write your own story thing" is odd.... I'm not a fan, but I'm curious as to what others think. I'd personally just move it to random chatter, but even that's not particularly appropriate.

The only problem is if someone needs good advice for anything Random Chat is the last place they're going to start a thread. If the thread can be productive and it's readable enough (the topic is, after all, writing), then it might as well stay. If it's an eyesore there's no reason to keep the bugger amongst General threads.

It'd be nice if there was a field for 'Genre' (with unnegotiable genres for specification) that could be edited. Mind you, cross-genre things could be catalogued by entering a comma between genres (you can do this with current fields). Simply searching 'vampire' or a similar term is inconvenient. It'd be easier to search 'vampire' in addition to whichever genre you're looking for - a vampire novel can be horror, romance, comedy, science fiction, even non-fiction *shivers*.

EDIT: Sorry, I read the thread title and processed 'Suggestions' rather than 'Suggestion', which made me think contibutions were welcome. I think this kind of thing is deserving of its own thread...

Yep. Moving any type of creative activity like this to random chat would be unnecessarily cruel. If you disagree, please go read through a few of the threads there.

One solution might be to move these type of writings to the profile page as blog type entries people could comment on. But would that create a whole new type of Listal misuser, who uses Listal only as a personal blog? I dunno, you tell me.

I suppose if they're posting such a thread it's devoid of purpose to move it because of spelling/grammar. After all, they're asking for suggestions so just tell them there are three ways to spell to/too/two. If they get offended and tell users that give this kind of suggestion to stop posting in the thread (as thread makers occasionally have the gall to do), then they're contradicting their own thread's purpose and the situation would need to be handled based on the circumstances.

No one needs to delete your thread just because you're getting dumb responses, right? How about this: the particular posts can be deleted. 'Sides, I have a feeling we're going to have one or two less Naruts on the forum by tomorrow...

Um... I gotta be honest, I don't even step into there! :P I am not a fan of disorganized chaos and free-for-alls. I figure I might lose a part of myself if I cross that threshold.

And no... I don't plan on deleting it or randomly deleting replies you don't like. In my opinion, that sort of falls under "abuse of power."

Those story threads and what not are the type of things I quickly skim through... So whatever is decided on what to do with those, I'm cool. The "Creative Corner" thing kind of makes sense if you think about it in relation to this site; sharing poems, written works, art, screenplays, etc.

Seriously though, why not just abolish 'Random Chat' altogether, Prelude? You don't come on this site to spend all of your time deleting awful threads and mindless mumbo jumbo. All the while you do that it detracts from your contribution to listal as a whole, which is a shame. The rules for that place are generally no 'Hi, Who's online?'" threads, but that is all that gets posted there.

All other topics of conversation can be covered in General Discussion which can be more efficiently moderated accordingly. Random chat is like setting up a spam forum for them to spam senselessly, but having to wade in and keep it in check anyway, I never saw the point of it.
