Some cool tags & lists for Movies

Post any cool tags you've discovered that help you find good list of movies, or post any good lists you may have made.
I'll start:
Movies tagged with '300 Greatest Films'
-note: it shows 359 items, although it adds up to 305 movies, so Listal's add-up feature is buggered up, Tom.
Movies tagged with 'IMDB Top250'
-not fully finished yet, but nearly there
Movies tagged with 'IMDB Bottom100'
-unfinished, but amusing list
Movies tagged with 'Cannes Winner'
-nowhere near complete, but has some unique gems
And here are some of my personal lists I've made:
(caution: they may load up very slowly, especially the IMDb250)
AFI's 100 Best American Films
-all 100 there, in correct order, from #1 to #100
Top 50 Box Office Hits of all time
-note: this list was taken from Boxofficemojo, is listed in correct order from #1 to #50, and most importantly, is 'adjusted for inflation', not sorted by total dollar amount made. quite a few surprises on that list.
IMDb Top250 list, sorted by popularity
-LOADS VERY SLOW, but listed in correct order as of Spring 2007
HAPPY FILM EXPLORING! :)

Great links, Prelude, thanks.
Though it's a shame to think this thread may soon be inundated with mindless chatter or pushed down by argumentative threads.

I guess I'm more left brained when I make my lists (for dvds rather than movies, but that's splitting hairs):
Hammer horror
Chinese Horror
Eurocult
Wu Xia
Girls With Guns
My Tags tend to be simple and descriptive; good for drilling down ie: start with comedy, narrow with horror, only works for two levels (asian, comedy for instance) but it's handy.

If I keep replying, than it won't be burried by mindless chatter. ;)

Munky informed me that AFI just recently updated their list on their 10th anniversary. Here is an updated list:
AFI's 100 Best American Films - 2007 edition
I tried to list all notable changes to the original 1997 edition in the description panel on the left side of the list.

and 2 more, hopefully to get some discussion going on this (the lack of movie buffs at listal is rather disheartening - everyone just wants to make friends or talk about mountain dew or pie or jesus *rolleyes*)

Nice tags. I think I'm getting a bit more thorough with my tagging as I recently started adding the Warner Brothers Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts that I've watched to my movies list. I loved them as a kid but never realised they were individual films, so now they are a cure to my boredom trying to track down all the ones I've watched. :P Anyway, I've been tagging them with the characters featured so I can easily find them when I'm in the mood for each.
I'm also starting to tag locations a lot more (ie Glasgow, Edinburgh, London) just incase I want to find them.
Have a look at all those tags!
EDIT: Oh, and for people who like things for free:
Public domain films!

I might help you with some of those Looney Tunes tagging. I got a DVD with dozens upon dozens of episodes of the best of the best Looney Tunes / Merry Melodies.

public domain tag! That's awesome. Thanks for these.

I was shipped straight from the Atari Godzilla forums, and have brought over four of my buddies there. One of them was disappointed with Listal's movies list, that they weren't all together and didn't all have pictures. I decided to officially ADD the original Japanese posters for almost all of them and list them in order.

And one more, recently finished list:
Carry On series - British comedy series from the 60s and 70s, featuring lots of slapstick humor, double meanings, and sexual exploitation of women. Ah, the good ol' days. :)

What? No slasher horror lists?!

Deleted user

I was thinking more along the lines of the classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Evil Dead, Friday the 13th, Halloween variety.

Not to be a pedant (too late!), but Evil Dead isn't a slasher flck.
Deleted user

Shh.... it totally is.

sorry voxy, it isn't. Evil Dead is a zombie flick. A slasher flick would imply some sort of psychotic serial killer is on the loose, 'slashing' up people for maximum gore effect, rather than simply using bullets.
I guess this is about a good place to start at as any:
movies tagged with 'slasher'
getting back to zombies for a sec:

Well, no. Evil Dead isn't a zombie movie either. Mind you, it's been a while since I've seen it and I'm more familiar with EVIL DEAD 2: DEAD BY DAWN (which is essentially an higher budget re-make of the first movie). Possessed people and body parts do not a zombie make; at least in the classical sense.

What the fuck is up with that dudes face?
Nice tag! :P

That french site (my french is a bit rusty so it was difficult to navigate thru) had your missing posters:
Mechagodzilla II
Space Godzilla
I never knew there were so many Godzilla variants. I'm gonna have to check a few of them out. Which ones do you recommend, besides the original Godzilla?
p.s. I also added their English titles as well as description I sniped off of IMDB site. You can do that as well, by hitting 'EDIT ITEM' right below 'Ads by Google' near the image posters.

Wow, you've really been a great help! I had no idea you could edit the actual item, besides being able to edit the picture. I knew this information comes from a database, and I guess I just assumed you have to go to the database to edit it.
Thanks! And, to answer your question, the Godzilla movies widely considered as the best (besides the original) are:
1) Mothra vs Godzilla (1964) - Be aware that there's a similar title called Godzilla vs Mothra that isn't on par with this one.
3) Invasion of the Astro Monster (1965) - This one especially appeals to the Sci-Fi crowd.
3) Godzilla vs Biollante (1989) - This movie picks up where Godzilla 1985 leaves off, in case the beginning is a bit confusing.
4) Godzilla vs Destoroyah (1995) - This is the last movie in what is referred to as the "Heisei" series of Godzilla films. Many references to the original Gojira are present.
And 5) Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001) - This movie, as well as most of the others in the "Millennium" series, works as a stand-alone movie, with no real connection to any other Godzilla movie but the original.
Mothra vs Godzilla and Invasion of the Astro Monster are available on DVD from Classic Media and Godzilla vs Destoroyah and GMK: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack are available on DVD from Sony. Netflix should have them as well. However, Godzilla vs Biollante is only on VHS as of yet.
I'll admit that some of the Godzilla movies aren't for everybody. There's a campy value to some that others don't get into as well. At any rate, these are the movies that appeal to the general public the most. And for those of you who haven't seen it (I assume you have, Prelude?), Gojira (1954) is also a classic.
I'll try to add more tags so I can post them here. I've been so focused on DVD, CD, Book, and Video Game lists that I haven't taken full advantage of the Movies application.

Only one "food porn" movie? Aww, I want more...

I think this thread is a great idea. I'm loving all the different tags. It's giving me ideas

Czech films
For such a tiny nation that went thru so much (world war 2, then communism), the Czechs sure managed to put out plenty of Oscar worthy masterpieces.

Help is welcome and its always nice to get some more tags on them. ;) After I get through that lot I'm looking to hunt down all the old Pink Panther shorts I watched as a kid. I've never kept track of them before and I'm looking forward to it (even though it wil be a lot of work).

Bringing this one back up to the top again:
Rotoscoping
It's an animation technique of drawing around actual human (or otherwise) figures to create the images. Just think He-Man. ;)

Rotoscoping's a good one; Renaisance and Sin City are superb examples.

I never thought of Sin City before! I'm going to add it to the Wikipedia list and tag it so on IMDB.

I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure Renaisance is an example of motion capture, like Monster House and Sin City of the melding of live action and cgi, like Sky Captain. For examples of rotoscoping look to Bakshi's Wizards and Lord of the Rings.

I checked IMDB and there is a credit for a "rotoscope artist" on the Sin City page. I've watched Wizards and Fire and Ice and tagged them, but haven't got around to Lord of the Rigs yet.
Checked Renaisance, never heard of it before, and found that there is no credit for a rotoscope artist, nor does anywhere else mention it being rotoscoping, so I'll leave that one out for now. (Especially since the top 2 Google hits contradict each other on the matter.)

I'm sure Sin City was rotoscoped, although, now you mention, less sure about Renaissance; that could have been green-screened and composited.

As an aside, how do you make clickable links on these forums?

I use "based on true story" myself.
Richard, take a peek at the bottom of the page. The "link example" is how it is done. ;)
EDIT: Also, when you're trying to show your own tags you need to have the URL from your profile (it should include your username).

Aaaah, tonight's Bacardi has made me blind!

Some html is allow but links will work on their own most of the time if you just paste them in

Never Finished
Never finished for various reasons, funny how most of them are rated half a star.

Movies seen in the Theater...
And then 2005, 2006 and 2007.
I didn't feel like going back any farther :)
