Report content

I've added a report content link for pictures, videos, reviews and lists .
This will be added to other areas in the future.

Thanks, Tom.
Does it block automatically after x amount of reports, or do you have to handle it case by case?

Thank you! This makes me very happy. :D

One little suggestion: Can you add the option of "content not there (video)" or something along those lines so we can report videos that are no longer available? That would be nice since we can't delete them ourselves and they can disapear at any time and clog up pages.
EDIT: Oh, and also there should be one for copyright infringement. Such as people posting the entire lyrics to songs or copying directly from other sites and posting it as their own work as a review... Speaking of that, is doing this with Wikipedia allowed? Looking at the Wikipedia:Copyrights page and Wikipedia:Mirrors and forks I don't think it is. If the report option is added for this I have a whole bunch to report by a certain someone... ยฌ_ยฌ Please reply soon Tom as this could go on and on...

I say we leave 'copyright infringement' alone. If a video is copyright infringed, YouTube removes it eventually, and besides, they are the ones hosting it, not listal. As for copyrighted reviews, that's getting more into 'plagiarism' not copyright violation, and unless you're a high school teacher, I don't think it should matter too much if some people choose to copy/paste movie descriptions or song lyrics. :)
And in regards to image copyrights, even though movie posters and dvd covers are copyrights, they are allowed to be used freely for purpose of promotion. Wikipedia talks about this in all the movie posters they show on their site. So I don't really see where else we could find copyright infringement on listal.

If people are allowed to post song lyrics then it will spread until the reviews are clogged with them and then there is a huge possibility of being taken for a lyric site and being shut down.
I was talking more about written information being plagarised, since images go more under a free-use ideal. I don't think people should post entire Wikipedia descriptions as reivews and try to take the credit. If you read the links then you have to obey certain restrictions when reposting entire articles of information. Plus it isn't really a review, it should be doing in the description bit NOT the reviews as it is just clawing for extra points (and being labelled as from Wikipedia of course).
A plagarism option would be extremely nice Tom. Using unoriginal text to boost your own score isn't really fair and is spammy.

I think in general people are just trying to be helpful.
As far as wikipedia text goes no this shouldn't be placed as a review but putting it in the editable description is ok, according to wikipedia you need to add the following text
Have you got examples of people posting song lyrics or wikipedia articles as reviews?

I haven't seen any reviews that seemed like a copy/paste job, but I'll admit for movies, I go to IMDB's plot outlines, pick one of the best plot outlines posted there, sometimes shorten it, add to it, or fix their typos or grammar, and re-post it, sometime word-for-word, for the Edit Description part. It try to give source: IMDB or source: RottenTomatoes, when it is verbatim copy.
Reviews, yes, they shouldn't be copied from somewhere else, because we want everyone's personal reviews on here, not copied outside source, but for the 'Edit Description' part, it can be quite tricky to figure out exact wording to best describe a plot without giving away too much and without including spoilers, so if someone at IMDB or wikipedia or other sites had a nicely worded plot outline, I think it benefits listal to have it copy/pasted into here rather than seeing that 'Sorry no description available' default text.

Why, yes I do. Check out practically all of Brodie Bruse's recent "reviews". Almost all of them are direct copies from Wikipedia and these are all lyrics, but I think he stopped after I warned him about it maybe getting us into trouble.
Just complete spam for points in my view.

I think what Brodie Bruce did is a sign that we really need user-editable areas for external links. I don't think he was 'spamming for points', especially since points mean nothing on here at the moment. If there was a way to do so, he could've added a link to wikipedia's entry for that Genesis album, but right now, all Listal has it a picture of album, amazon sales information, tags, and who else on listal likes it. I'd love to see areas added for item pages, so we could add Track Listings for albums (right now, it has to be done as a 'review', and perhaps we could add music lyrics as well (I must've missed the RIAA memo on that, but since when are the text of the lyrics a copyrighted item? and even if it is, what kind of a sick RIAA freak lawyer would prosecute that?)

Lyrics are definitely copyrighted material. :)

Erm, plenty? Big lyrics sites are shut down every now and then and that is why there are plenty of rubbish ones about. Take this from Wikipedia:
Plus, if you see Brodie Bruce's comment on my userpage it might be clear that he is being a little over competitive on here points-wise. I replied to him telling him I was just trying to maintain my collection, but he just deleted it along with my message about posting song lyrics being illegal.
There are many websites that feature lyrics to songs. This is, however, a controversial area since many web sites include copyright lyrics without permission from the copyright holder. The US Music Publishers' Association (MPA), which represents sheet music companies, launched a campaign against such sites in December 2005. MPA president Lauren Keiser indicated that the sites are "completely illegal" and that he wanted to see some site operators jailed[1].

Tom, if it would be easier for you I can go through and report each Wikipedia "review" and provide the sources for each. I have plenty of time between now and my next exam and I'm used to doing things like this by now (a LOT of spam/plagarism reports on both Wiki and other forums) and it shouldn't be too much for me. Plus I'm always looking for a way to contribute and would be happy to help. :)

man, i learned something new today. RIAA is insane! :)
What are they afraid of? That people will sing their favorite tunes and not buy the albums in question? that karaoke will take over and no one will listen to recorded music anymore?
