The ships transporting the Famine Victims had horrific conditions, where most died in transit from disease and hunger. In fact the conditions were often worse than Slavers! They were referred to as Coffin Ships. This memorial is based at Murrisk, Co. Mayo, Ireland.
Incidentally, English landlords offered an inducement of food, water and money for the journey and arrival, but more often than not, never fulfilled the promise
