" War and Peace " a film directed by King Vidor released in Italian cinemas in 1956, the role of the main charachter should have been played by Silvana Mangano wife of the film's producer, but she refused the part and Audrey Hepburn was therefore chosen instead of her (for the occasion she will play once again together with her husband Mel Ferrer)
The film was shot entirely in Italy, especially in Turin along the Po and near Felonica in Mantua.
The film received five Golden Globes nominations in 1957 and three Oscar nominations the same year.
"War and Peace" is still the most watched Italian film ever as well as a box office hit in the 1956/1957 season.
