SHARON TATE and DAVID NIVEN on the set of ‘EYE OF THE DEVIL’, 1965
David Niven was one of Sharon’s biggest celebrity crushes, and this is evident by the way she looks in these photographs. Of course, Sharon was a professional and had spent two years extensively training to be an actress when she got the role as Odile de Caray. However, from the beaming smile on her face in almost every photo you see of them together, I imagine her head was close to exploding sharing his company on the set of her first film.
TATE: “The first day that David walked on the location, I, when I was younger, I thought, ‘this is the man I’m going to marry’. So when he came up I told him, I said, ‘well, you know, I had plans for marrying you for many years’. Oh jeez, he’s so suave, and so elegant, and so handsome, and witty. And the funny thing about it is that I did my first film with him.”
NIVEN: “Sharon is a great discovery. First of all, she’s a fabulously good-looking bird, and she’s got all the fun and spark and go. She’s a marvellous girl. She’s up on cloud nine, Sharon is. I think she’s a very, very good actress, and obviously she’s gonna make a big hit in this picture.”
