A good movie

To be honest, I wasnโ€™t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Alicia Vikander, I thought I might as well check it out. In fact, a couple of weeks ago, I saw โ€˜1917โ€™ which must have been the most heralded movie about this conflict released during the last 2 decades, if not more. Well, even this movie didnโ€™t make so many waves, it also gave an interesting look on this war and, above all, on the traumatic impact it had on a whole generation of British young people, not only the soldiers, but also all the young girls that were left behind. So, it was indeed interesting but, to be honest, it never became really spellbinding though. I guess it mostly had to do with the characters. Indeed, it was a rather slow affair as the makers took their time to make sure we got acquainted with them but, eventually, I never thought they were really fascinating. Their antiquated and misguided views on war and their misjudgment on the impact it might have, which were probably accurate for the time period, didnโ€™t help either and made them look more naive than actually intellectually brilliant. Of course, it is easy to judge them following 80 years of very strong anti-war sentiment in Europe following two devastating World War conflicts. Anyway, this movie finally did land some emotional punches but actually only towards the very end and I wish I did care more for these characters. Still, the lovely Alicia Vikander was again so charismatic to behold and she delivered another solid performance, even if her character was often pretty much reduced to a spoiled brat. Taron Egerton was also quite convincing as well and, concerning Kitt Harington, well, it was a decent effort but I still had the feeling that I was watching Jon Snow going to WWI. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, it was still a decent watch and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
