A good movie

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but since Sam Peckinpah is a very interesting director, I was really eager to check it out. When I think of Sam Peckinpah, I always think of 'The Wild Bunch' so it was rather interesting to see a WWII flick directed by him, for a change. To my surprise, I thought it was actually really good and I even think I enjoyed it more than 'The Wild Bunch' which is considered as Peckinpah's seminal classic. Indeed, it is a rather underrated war movie and, in my opinion, it is basically what 'Inglourious basterds' should have looked like: less talk and more badass action. Basically, as expected with Peckinpah, the tone was really dark and gloomy and it was really interesting to see the point of the view of the Germans for a change. On top of that, even though it is basically an action flick , it still managed to show how merciless war can be and the effects it has on the soldiers. To conclude, even though it doesn't get much credit, it is a rather dark but still pretty fascinating picture and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Sam Peckinpah's work.
