Worn upon the back of his right ear, Peter Quill’s expanding partial helmet is his first line of defense against the harshness and vacuum of space, alien atmospheres, and is the most important tool in his arsenal of gadgets.
The advanced technology of the helmet allows it to provide a suite of life-support functions to the wearer. These functions include oxygen purification – allowing the wearer to breathe while exposed to alien atmospheres; a back-up oxygen supply for extravehicular activities while in the vacuum of space, along with a re-breather and air pressure regulation to protect the wearer from sudden atmospheric pressure changes. The helmet provides built-in communications technology, and a heads-up display that integrates into Peter’s peripheral gadgets, including any scanners he may be using, weapons, and flight systems, while also providing him with thermal vision and threat detection – allowing him to stay one step ahead of his enemies and increasing his reflex time with pre-emptive counter attacks.
